Justice Served

Brenda: I will contest it in court! I will drag this out for years.

Mr. Vance: You can try. But there is a no-contest clause.

Brenda: I don't care about a clause!

Mr. Vance: If you challenge the will, the estate releases the fraud evidence to the police.

Brenda: You are blackmailing me.

Chloe: We are offering you a choice, Brenda. Take the dollar and walk away.

Brenda: Or what?

Mr. Vance: Or you go to federal prison for wire fraud and elder abuse.

Brenda: You wouldn't do that to your own sister.

Chloe: You said it yourself earlier. I'm just the step-daughter.

Brenda looked around the church, realizing that the entire congregation was listening to every word.

Brenda: This is a nightmare.

Mr. Vance: To my step-daughter Chloe, I leave the mansion, the family business, and the remaining trust fund.

Brenda: No! That is my childhood home!

Chloe: It was Mom's home. And she wanted me to have it.

Brenda: You can't even afford the property taxes.

Mr. Vance: The life insurance settlement more than covers the taxes for the next fifty years.

Brenda: She gave her the life insurance too?

Mr. Vance: Every single penny.

Brenda: I have nowhere to go. My husband is leaving me.

Chloe: You should have thought about that before you stole from a dying woman.

Brenda: Please, Chloe. I'm sorry. I was desperate.

Chloe: You weren't desperate. You were greedy.

Brenda: I will pay it back! Just give me some of the insurance money to float my mortgage.

Chloe: Not a chance.

Mr. Vance: I suggest you leave quietly, Brenda, before I call the local authorities.

Brenda: You can't kick me out of my mother's funeral.

Mr. Vance: Actually, as the sole executor of the estate, Chloe has total control over this service.

Chloe: It is time for you to go, Brenda.

Brenda: I hate you. I will always hate you.

Chloe: The feeling is mutual. Now get out.

Brenda grabbed her designer purse, bursting into tears as she ran down the center aisle and out the heavy wooden doors.

Mr. Vance: Well handled, Chloe.

Chloe: Thank you, Mr. Vance. Let's finish saying goodbye to Mom.
