The Final Notice

Brenda: The what?

Mr. Vance: The foreclosure notice on your house.

Brenda: My house is perfectly fine.

Chloe: Mom cut off your husband's allowance three months ago.

Brenda: Allowance? He is a CEO!

Chloe: He runs a shell company that Mom funded just to keep you quiet.

Brenda: You are a vicious, jealous liar.

Mr. Vance: The funding stopped, and your mortgage bounced for the last three months.

Brenda: That is impossible. I have millions in my personal account.

Chloe: Not anymore.

Brenda: What did you do?

Mr. Vance: Since those funds were stolen from the estate, we had the accounts frozen.

Brenda stared at her phone screen, tapping the bank app frantically as her face grew pale.

Brenda: Access denied... this can't be happening.

Chloe: It is happening. You took everything from her while she was dying.

Brenda: I deserve that money! I stayed here in this boring town.

Chloe: You stayed because you couldn't survive without her wallet.

Brenda: Mr. Vance, I will sue you for everything you own.

Mr. Vance: Good luck affording a divorce lawyer, let alone a civil litigator.

Brenda: Divorce? My marriage is fine.

Chloe: Your husband packed his bags this morning.

Brenda: How would you possibly know that?

Chloe: Because he called me asking if there was any money left in the trust fund.

Brenda: He called you? Before me?

Chloe: He wanted to know if the prenup was still valid.

Mr. Vance: It is very much valid, Brenda. You leave the marriage with nothing.

Brenda: I want this man out of this church right now!

Chloe: You don't make the rules anymore.

Brenda: I am the primary beneficiary of the estate!

Mr. Vance: Let's read the updated will right now, shall we?

He clicked the brass locks on his briefcase open, pulling out a thick stack of stapled papers.

Brenda: You can't do a will reading at a funeral.

Mr. Vance: It was your mother's explicit final request.

Chloe: She wanted everyone to know the truth.

Mr. Vance: To my daughter Brenda, I leave the sum of one dollar.

Brenda: One dollar? That is illegal!

Mr. Vance: It is entirely legal. It proves she didn't forget you, she just chose to disinherit you.
