Brenda: The estate attorney? Why are you here right now?
Mr. Vance: I am executing the final wishes of my client.
Brenda: My mother's lawyer was Mr. Higgins.
Mr. Vance: She fired Mr. Higgins three months ago.
Brenda: That is impossible. I managed all her legal affairs.
Chloe: Obviously, you didn't manage everything.
Brenda: Shut up, Chloe. This doesn't concern you.
Mr. Vance: Actually, ma'am, it concerns her quite a bit.
Mr. Vance straightened his tie and carefully adjusted the heavy leather briefcase he held in his left hand.
Brenda: What are you talking about? She has no claim to the estate.
Mr. Vance: That is not for you to decide.
Brenda: I am the primary beneficiary! The life insurance goes straight to me.
Mr. Vance: We will discuss the details after the service.
Brenda: No, we will discuss them right now. This woman is trespassing.
Chloe: I was invited by Mom.
Brenda: Stop calling her that! She only married your biological father for a few years.
Chloe: She raised me from when I was seven.
Brenda: And then you abandoned her just like he did.
Chloe: I moved away for law school. Mom paid my tuition.
Brenda: She did what?
Brenda's jaw dropped as she looked between Chloe and the tall man in the grey suit.
Mr. Vance: Please, ladies. Keep your voices down. We are in a church.
Brenda: I don't care where we are! She stole my inheritance to pay for your school?
Chloe: It wasn't your inheritance. It was her money.
Brenda: It was a family business! My father built that company.
Mr. Vance: Actually, the business was entirely in your mother's name.
Brenda: Listen to me, Mr. Vance or whatever your name is. I want her gone.
Mr. Vance: I cannot do that.
Brenda: Yes, you can! I will have security throw both of you out.
Chloe: You don't have the authority to do that, Brenda.
Brenda: Watch me.
Brenda turned around wildly, looking for the usher standing near the large wooden doors.
Mr. Vance: Before you cause a scene, I suggest you read this.
He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a folded piece of thick, blue-stamped paper.
Brenda: What is that?
Mr. Vance: A legal injunction.
Brenda: An injunction for what?
Mr. Vance: It prevents you from making any decisions regarding the funeral.
Brenda: That is insane! I paid for all these floral arrangements.
Chloe: Actually, you used Mom's credit card to pay for them.
Brenda: How do you know that?
Mr. Vance: Because Chloe is the one who flagged the charges to the bank.
Brenda stared at the paper in the lawyer's hand, her breathing growing heavy and shallow.
