Cornered At The Country Club

Officer Miller: Nobody move! Who called emergency dispatch?

Mr. Vance: Over here, officer. My name is Arthur Vance. My son was just target of an attempted poison attack on this stage.

Officer Miller: Is anyone injured or requiring medical attention?

David: No, thanks to this brave young woman, Sarah. She stopped me before I took a sip.

Officer Miller: Where is the substance, Sir?

Sarah stepped forward carefully, presenting her smartphone with the video queued up, alongside the brown glass bottle she had collected from the floor.

Sarah: Here is the original video recording of her crushing the pills, Officer. And here is the vial she tried to smash on the floor.

Officer Miller took the phone and watched the recording, his forehead creasing as he saw Amanda dissolving the pills into the champagne. He looked back at Amanda, his expression hardening.

Officer Miller: Ma'am, put your hands behind your back.

Amanda: Wait! You don't understand! My mother forced me to do it!

Mrs. Sterling: Don't touch me! I am a member of the city council!

Officer Miller: I don't care if you're the mayor, ma'am. You're both under arrest for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

The second officer stepped up, snapping heavy steel handcuffs onto Amanda's wrists. Amanda began to sob hysterically, her white wedding dress wrinkling against the cold iron cuffs.

Amanda: David! Please! Tell them to stop! I can change! We can start over!

David: Start over? You tried to kill me three minutes before our wedding vows.

Amanda: I was scared! We owed millions to the banks!

David: You should have worked for your money like real people do, instead of trying to murder your way into wealth.

Mrs. Sterling: This is a setup! The Vance family framed us to steal our land assets!

Officer Miller: Keep walking, ma'am. You can explain your theory to the judge at the bail hearing tomorrow morning.

The officers escorted Amanda and her mother down the long marble aisle. Guests pulled out their phones, recording every second of the humiliating exit as the bride was led away in handcuffs.

Guest 1: Look at her! The Sterling family is completely finished in this town!

Guest 2: Attempted murder at the altar... I've never seen anything so evil in my entire life!

David turned around and looked at Sarah, who was still holding her broom and smartphone near the broken glass. Her hands were shaking slightly from the adrenaline.

David: Sarah, come here for a second.

Sarah: Yes, Mr. Vance? Am I in trouble with the venue management?

David: In trouble? You just saved my life.
