Victoria: We don't need to waste time looking at hours of boring footage, Richard!
Richard: Why not? If it proves she took it, we call the police. If it proves she didn't, we find out where the bracelet actually went.
Victoria: You're wasting time while she stands here trying to think of another excuse!
Leo: Why are you so afraid to look at the security cameras, Mom?
Victoria: I am not afraid! I just don't like being treated like my word isn't enough in my own home!
Richard: This isn't about your word, Victoria. A very serious crime has been alleged. If Hannah took a diamond bracelet from our estate, it involves the police, insurance claims, and legal consequences. We do things by the book.
Victoria: Fine! Check her bag first! If it's in her bag, we don't even need the cameras!
Richard: Fair enough. Bring the bag here.
reached into the small leather tote bag that Hannah used for work. He pulled out a worn wallet, a small bottle of lotion, a half-eaten sandwich in a plastic bag, and a cheap keyring.
Richard: Nothing in the main pocket.
Victoria: Check the side zipper!
Richard unzipped the small interior pocket and searched it with his fingers. He pulled out a couple of hair ties and some lip balm.
Richard: There's no bracelet here, Victoria.
Victoria: She must have hidden it somewhere else in the house before trying to make her exit!
Hannah: I didn't hide anything! You can search my locker in the staff room! You can search my car!
Victoria: Of course you'd say that now that you know we're looking!
Leo: Stop it, Mom! Just stop!
Victoria: Leo, go sit down! You are being extremely rude to your mother!
Leo: You hit Hannah! That's rude! That's illegal!
Victoria: She stole from us!
Leo: She didn't! Show them your coat, Mom!
Victoria: What?
Leo: Show them the coat you wore this morning!
Victoria's face suddenly lost a tiny bit of its color, though she quickly masked it with another scowl.
Victoria: What does my coat have to do with my missing diamond cuff?
Leo: You had it on when you left for the spa, didn't you?
Victoria: No, I didn't! I left the bracelet on my vanity table!
Leo: That's a lie! I saw you putting it on right before you walked out the front door at eight AM!
Victoria: You did not! You were fast asleep at eight AM!
Leo: I was up getting water! You were standing right at the foyer mirror, putting on the diamond bracelet and your blue winter coat!
Richard: Victoria... is that true?
Victoria: Of course not! The boy is confused! He sees me wearing jewelry all the time, he's mixing up days!
Leo: I'm not mixing up days! You wore the blue coat today because it was cold this morning! And you wore the diamond bracelet because you said you wanted to show it off to your friend Julianna at lunch!
Hannah: Mrs. Sterling... you were wearing that blue coat when you came back home at noon.
Victoria: Nobody asked you!
Richard: Answer the question, Victoria. Did you wear the bracelet out of the house today?
Victoria: No! I am telling you, it was on the vanity!
Leo: Dad, look at her purse! The silver handbag she took to lunch!
Victoria: Leo, do not touch my bag!
Leo snatched the silver designer purse off the entry console table before Victoria could grab it. He unzipped the top and dumped the entire contents onto the marble floor.
Victoria: Leo! How dare you!
Keys, lipstick, compact powder, and credit cards clattered across the floor. And right in the center of the mess, glittering brightly under the light, was the diamond cuff bracelet.
