Victoria: Richard, thank goodness you're down here. This girl took my diamond bracelet!
Richard: Which bracelet, Victoria?
Victoria: The five-carat diamond cuff! The one you got me for our anniversary! I left it right on my vanity table this morning, and now it's completely gone!
Hannah: Sir, I swear on my life, I didn't enter the master suite at all today.
Victoria: Shut up! You were the only one upstairs during the morning shift!
Leo: That's not true, Mom! Dad, she's lying. The maid did nothing wrong!
Richard: Leo, calm down. Let me understand what happened first.
Victoria: What is there to understand, Richard? Look at her! She's panicking because she knows she got caught!
Hannah: I'm crying because you slapped me in front of everyone! I didn't steal your diamond cuff!
Victoria: How dare you talk back to me after taking my jewelry!
Victoria took another step forward, her sharp heel clicking loud against the polished marble floor. Leo kept his body planted firmly in front of Hannah.
Leo: Dad, don't let her do this!
Richard: Victoria, step back. Right now.
Victoria: Are you taking the side of a maid over your own wife?
Richard: I am asking for order in my home. We do not assault the staff.
Victoria: She stole a hundred-thousand-dollar piece of jewelry, Richard! That's grand larceny! She belongs in prison!
Hannah: Please, Mr. Sterling. You know my record here. I've worked for you for three years. I've never touched a single thing that wasn't mine.
Victoria: People change when they get desperate. We all know her family has financial issues.
Hannah: My mother is sick, yes, but I earn my money honestly!
Victoria: Honestly? You think cleaning toilets pays for specialized treatment? You got greedy!
Leo: Mom, stop saying that! You don't know anything!
Victoria: Leo, go to your room this instant. This is adult business.
Leo: No! I'm not going anywhere until you apologize to Hannah!
Victoria: Apologize? To a thief? Have you completely lost your mind?
Richard: Enough! Both of you!
The hall went dead silent again. Richard walked over to where Hannah was still kneeling on the cold floor, her body trembling with spent adrenaline.
Richard: Hannah, get up off the floor.
Hannah: Thank you, sir.
Richard: Did you search her bag, Victoria?
Victoria: Not yet. I caught her trying to sneak past the main archway, so I stopped her before she could leave the mansion.
Hannah: I was heading to the laundry room! I have three baskets of linens to fold!
Victoria: A likely story. Her purse is sitting right there on the side table. Check it yourself, Richard.
Richard: We will check it properly. Butler, bring her bag over here.
Butler: Right away, Mr. Sterling.
Leo: Dad, you can search her bag all you want. It's not in there.
Victoria: Oh, so now you're an expert on where she hid it?
Leo: I know she didn't take it because I saw who went into your room this morning!
Victoria: What are you talking about?
Leo: You left your room at eight o'clock for your spa appointment. Hannah was down in the kitchen with the chef until nine.
Victoria: She could have gone up anytime after nine!
Leo: She didn't! I was in the hallway playing video games the entire morning!
Victoria: You were in your room, Leo, don't make up stories to protect her.
Leo: I wasn't in my room! Ask the butler! He brought me juice in the lounge at nine-thirty!
Butler: That is correct, ma'am. Young Master Leo was on the second-floor lounge couch from nine until nearly eleven.
Victoria: So what? She could have slipped past him while he wasn't looking!
Hannah: I was cleaning the West Wing study, ma'am. The security cameras in the hallway show me going in with the vacuum.
Victoria: Oh, now you want to bring security tapes into this?
Richard: That's actually a very good idea. Let's check the security feeds right now.
