"I installed security cameras after the house renovation," he said calmly.
"I wanted to make sure everything stayed safe."
He opened the recorded footage.
The video clearly showed Linda walking to the staircase only minutes earlier.
She looked around to make sure no one was watching.
Then she slowly poured oil onto several steps.
Afterward, she walked away as though nothing had happened.
The room became completely silent.
Emma covered her mouth in disbelief.
David stared at the screen for several long seconds.
Then he looked at his mother.
"No," he said quietly.
"I saw everything."
Linda's face turned pale.
She struggled to find words.
"I..."
Nothing came out.
The evidence spoke louder than any explanation.
Emma felt tears filling her eyes.
She couldn't believe someone she had trusted could put both her and her unborn baby in danger.
David gently took Emma's hand.
"You don't have to be afraid anymore," he said.
He wrapped his arm around her shoulders.
"I've got you."
Emma leaned against him, finally feeling safe.
Several relatives, who had arrived after hearing the commotion, watched the footage themselves.
They were shocked.
No one expected to see something so heartbreaking.
David spoke firmly but calmly.
"My first responsibility is protecting my wife and our child."
He turned toward Emma.
"We're leaving today."
Emma nodded.
Together, they packed only the essentials and left the house.
Over the following days, David made sure Emma attended every medical checkup. Thankfully, both she and the baby were healthy.
He also changed the home's security arrangements and made it clear that trust had to be earned through actions.
Emma slowly recovered from the frightening experience.
Although she would never forget that morning, she found comfort knowing she wasn't facing the future alone.
Every evening, David reminded her of the same promise.
"No matter what happens, I'll always protect you and our baby."
Months later, they welcomed a healthy little girl into the world.
As David held his daughter for the first time, he realized how close they had come to losing everything.
The experience changed their family forever.
It reminded them that real love isn't measured by words.
It's measured by the courage to stand up for the people who need you most, even when the truth is painful.
