Cornered on the Terrace

Victoria: You called them already?

Claire: The valet pressed the panic button the second you dropped that key.

Victoria: This is a mistake. Mark, talk to me! We were married for five years!

Mark: And those five years were a nightmare. You cared about my family money, and nothing else.

Victoria: I built that company with you! I deserve half of that trust estate!

Claire: You deserve a prison cell.

Victoria grabbed her high heels, ripped them off her feet, and bolted toward the side gate leading to the parking lot[cite: 1]. But two venue security guards stepped out from behind the hedge, blocking the exit entirely[cite: 1].

Guard: Don't move, ma'am.

Victoria: Out of my way! Do you know who I am?

Guard: Step back. The police are coming up the hill.

Victoria: Mark, tell them to let me go! I’ll sign over the penthouse! I’ll give up the lawsuit!

Mark: Keep your mouth shut, Victoria. You’re going to need a good defense lawyer.

Claire: Are you okay, Lily?

Lily: I’m cold, Mommy...

Claire: I know, sweetie. Here, take my dry shawl.

Claire wrapped the warm fabric around her daughter's shoulders, pulling her close against her chest[cite: 1]. The sound of tires screeching echoed off the front driveway as three police cruisers pulled up to the main entrance[cite: 1].

Officer: Who called dispatch?

Mark: Over here, officer. This woman just locked my daughter underwater.

Officer: Is the child injured?

Claire: She was chained under the pool cover. Look at her wrists!

The officer walked over and inspected the red marks left by the heavy iron shackles on Lily’s skin[cite: 1]. He looked back at Victoria, his face hardening[cite: 1].

Officer: Ma'am, put your hands behind your back.

Victoria: I didn't touch her! Check her fingernails! I didn't touch that kid!

Officer: You have the right to remain silent. Turn around.

Victoria: Mark! You’re ruining everything! The firm will collapse!

Mark: Let it burn.

The officers handcuffed Victoria and led her down the stone steps toward the patrol car[cite: 1]. Her loud screams faded into the distance as the car door slammed shut[cite: 1].
