The Secret in the Vault

Mark: Stop right there, Victoria!

Victoria: How did you get out of that water?

Mark: Did you really think you could lock my family under a pool cover and walk away?

Victoria: You were supposed to sign the settlement papers today, Mark. You chose her instead.

Claire: You tried to kill a child! You tried to kill my baby!

Victoria stood on the steps of the grand glass estate, clutching her leather purse tightly[cite: 1]. Dozens of venue staff and caterers stood frozen, staring in absolute horror at the dripping family standing before them[cite: 1].

Victoria: You have no proof of anything. It was an accident. The cover malfunctioned.

Mark: You held the remote in your hand! Everyone saw you!

Victoria: Remote? I don't know what you're talking about.

Claire: Check her bag! Check her bag right now!

Victoria: Get your hands off me!

Mark stepped forward and snatched the leather bag straight out of Victoria’s hands[cite: 1]. He unzipped it and dumped the contents right onto the stone steps[cite: 1]. A black plastic remote control rolled down the stairs, along with a stack of signed legal documents[cite: 1].

Mark: What is this? What are these papers?

Victoria: That’s private company property!

Claire: Is that the trust fund deed?

Mark: It’s my mother’s estate transfer... She forged my signature.

Victoria: Your mother left that property to the firm! Not to you!

Mark: My mother left fifty percent of her inheritance to Lily in a legal trust! You knew about it all along!

Claire: That’s why you tried to drown her. If Lily died, the trust fund money went straight back to you and the corporation.

Victoria: You can't prove a single word of that in a court of law!

Mark: I don't need to prove it. Look at the cameras, Victoria.

Mark pointed up at the black security domes mounted along the roofline of the luxury venue[cite: 1]. Four separate high-definition lenses were pointed directly at the pool deck[cite: 1].

Victoria: Those... those are just for show.

Mark: The owner of this estate is my divorce lawyer’s biggest client. Every square inch of this patio is recorded on high-speed HDR video.

Claire: Everything you did is on tape. Throwing the key, pressing the button, watching us drown.

Victoria’s face turned pale white[cite: 1]. Her confidence evaporated as she took a slow step backward toward the main lobby doors[cite: 1].

Victoria: We can make a deal, Mark. You don't have to call anyone.

Mark: A deal? You tried to murder my pregnant wife and my daughter!

Claire: Listen to those sirens, Victoria.

In the distance, the sharp sound of police sirens broke through the afternoon air, growing louder as they turned down the driveway[cite: 1].
