The Truth Exposed In Court

Prosecutor: State your full name for the record, please.

Chloe: Chloe Eleanor Montgomery.

Prosecutor: Miss Montgomery, please describe what happened on the evening of June 14th at the Montgomery Estate.

Three months later, the city courthouse was packed to capacity. Reporters, corporate executives, and curious citizens filled every bench. Mark sat at the defense table wearing an orange jumpsuit, his hair messy and his wrists handcuffed to his waist belt. His mother sat next to him, looking aged and broken in her prison attire.

Chloe: Mark Vance demanded that I sign an agreement surrendering my mother's inheritance trust. When I refused, he slapped me in front of over two hundred guests.

Defense Lawyer: Objection, Your Honor! It was an emotional moment brought on by stress during a high-stakes business negotiation!

Judge: Overruled. The witness will continue.

Chloe: He told me I was marrying into his family and that I owed them everything. He thought he could physically abuse me to force my compliance.

Prosecutor: And did you present physical and digital evidence to support this claim?

Chloe: Yes. High-definition security footage from four separate angles, along with medical reports documenting the bruising on my face.

Prosecutor: Thank you, Miss Montgomery. No further questions.

The defense attorney stood up slowly, adjusting his tie. He knew he had no chance of winning, but he was trying to save his clients from maximum sentencing.

Defense Lawyer: Miss Montgomery... isn't it true that your father slapped Mr. Vance immediately after arriving at the scene?

Chloe: My father intervened to protect his daughter from a man who had just assaulted her.

Defense Lawyer: But it was still an act of violence, wasn't it?

Chloe: It was justice.

The courtroom murmured in agreement, and the judge banged his gavel sharply to restore order.

Judge: Silence in the court!

Defense Lawyer: No further questions, Your Honor.

Judge: Will the defendants please stand for sentencing?

Mark and his mother stood up slowly, their hands shaking as they faced the judge's bench. The room went deathly silent.

Judge: Mark Vance, for the charges of felony assault, domestic battery, and corporate fraud, I sentence you to eight years in state prison without the possibility of early parole.

Mark: Eight years? No! Your Honor, please! I have no prior record!

Judge: Evelyn Vance, for the charges of grand larceny, forgery, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, I sentence you to twelve years in state prison.

Mrs. Vance: Twelve years? I’ll die in prison! Please, mercy!

Judge: You showed no mercy to a young woman whose family trust you attempted to loot. Court is adjourned.

The judge slammed the gavel down, signaling the end of the trial. Bailiffs immediately stepped forward, grabbing Mark and his mother to lead them away through the heavy side doors.

Mark: Chloe! Look at me! Tell them this is too harsh!

Chloe didn't even turn her head. She picked up her leather purse, smoothed down her suit jacket, and walked out of the courtroom beside her father with her head held high.
