Mark: Mr. Montgomery! Why did you just hit me?
Richard: Because you made the biggest mistake of your entire life in front of two hundred people.
Mark: She disrespected my mother! She embarrassed our family business in public!
Chloe: He's lying, Dad. His mother tried to force me to sign over my inheritance trust fund before the wedding.
Mrs. Vance: That is a complete lie! It was a standard prenuptial agreement for the merger!
Richard: Shut your mouth, Mrs. Vance, before I have my lawyers dismantle your entire estate by midnight.
Mrs. Vance: How dare you speak to me like that! We built this company from the ground up!
Richard: You built it on my capital, and today you proved you have no honor.
Mark pulled himself up, rubbing his red, swollen cheek. His suit jacket was crooked, and his breath was heavy with anger and embarrassment. The guests were taking out their phones, recording every single second of the confrontation.
Mark: You think you can just walk in here and ruin our engagement, old man?
Chloe: The engagement is over, Mark.
Mark: You don't get to decide that! We signed the preliminary partnership deal last week!
Chloe: That deal was contingent on my approval. And I'm tearing it up.
Mrs. Vance: Mark, do something! They can't pull out of the merger now! We'll face foreclosure on the main factory!
Mark: Chloe, look at me! You loved me! We've been planning this wedding for a year!
Chloe: I loved the man I thought you were. But tonight you showed everyone who you really are.
Mark: I raised my voice because you stepped out of line! A real wife respects her husband’s authority!
Richard: A real man never raises his hand against a woman. Especially not my daughter.
Richard stepped between Mark and Chloe, his presence commanding the attention of the entire venue. He motioned to his lead security guard, who immediately pulled out a thick leather portfolio from his coat.
Richard: Hand those to Mr. Vance.
Guard: Yes, sir.
Mark: What is this? What are you handing me?
Richard: That is an immediate freeze on all joint bank accounts, a revocation of your firm's credit lines, and an official notice of lawsuit for fraud.
Mrs. Vance: Fraud? What fraud?
Chloe: We know about the offshore accounts, Mrs. Vance. We know you tried to siphon money from my late mother's trust fund.
Mrs. Vance: That’s impossible... how could you know about that?
Chloe: My father didn't just build an empire by making speeches. He checks every single detail before signing a contract.
Mark: Chloe, please! Talk to me privately! We can fix this!
Chloe: There is nothing left to fix, Mark.
Chloe pulled the massive diamond engagement ring off her finger. It sparkled under the bright light as she tossed it onto the stone floor at Mark's feet. It rolled across the polished tile, stopping right against his shoe.
Mark: You’re throwing away a twenty-million-dollar merger over a disagreement?
Chloe: I'm throwing away trash.
Mrs. Vance: You ungrateful little brat! We gave you a place in high society!
Richard: Security, clear the room of these two. They are trespassing on Montgomery property.
Mark: This is my venue! I booked this hall!
Richard: I bought the building two hours ago, Mark. You’re standing on my floor.
