The Arrest At The Penthouse

Victoria: How dare you enter my home without an appointment!

Chief Miller: Victoria Sterling, you are under arrest for kidnapping, extortion, and grand larceny.

An hour later, police cruisers lined the front driveway of Victoria’s luxury high-rise apartment building. Their flashing red and blue lights illuminated the polished glass lobby. Victoria stood near her white velvet sofa, wearing a silk robe while two officers held her arms.

Victoria: Kidnapping? This is ridiculous! That case was closed twenty years ago!

Chief Miller: We reopened it thirty minutes ago when Arthur Vance identified his daughter.

Victoria: That girl is an imposter! She had a fake tattoo put on her arm to trick an old man out of his estate!

Thomas: The DNA test results will be finalized by morning, Victoria. But we already have the offshore paper trail.

Victoria: Paper trail? What paper trail?

Thomas: The ten-million-dollar ransom money paid twenty years ago was funneled through a shell corporation registered in your late husband's name.

Victoria’s face drained of all color. Her knees buckled slightly as the second officer pulled out a pair of heavy steel handcuffs.

Victoria: My husband did that! I knew nothing about his business deals!

Thomas: You signed the tax documents every year, Victoria. And you used those funds to buy your shares in the Vance Holding Corporation.

Victoria: Arthur can't do this to me! We've been friends for thirty years!

Chief Miller: You stole his infant child and left her in an orphanage so you could steal his money. That isn't friendship, ma'am. That's a life sentence.

Victoria: Get your hands off me! Call my lawyer! Call him right now!

The officers snapped the handcuffs onto her wrists, pulling her hands behind her back. Victoria screamed and cursed as she was escorted down the hallway toward the elevator, past neighbors staring from their open doors.

Back at the Vance estate, Maya stood on the balcony of her new bedroom, looking out over the sprawling green gardens bathed in moonlight. She wore a soft silk robe, a warm cup of chamomile tea resting in her hands.

Arthur: Can't sleep, my dear?

Maya: I keep thinking I'm going to wake up in my tiny basement apartment and realize my alarm is going off for my morning shift.

Arthur: You will never have to set a morning alarm again unless you want to, Lily.

Maya: It's just so much to take in... one moment I was getting slapped for a spilled drink, and now I have a family.

Arthur: That woman tried to destroy your life twice. But truth has a way of coming into the light, no matter how long it takes.
