The Sweet Taste Of Justice

Victoria stood completely frozen, her eyes wide with terror as the entire room turned against her. The lawyers she had brought to protect her estate were now looking away in absolute shame. The web of lies she had carefully spun for over two decades had completely collapsed in a single moment.

Victoria: Arthur... please... I did it for us! I loved you! I couldn't let some poor girl ruin our future and our standing in high society!

Arthur: You did it for yourself, Victoria. You did it to secure your place in this mansion and to ensure you had access to my family business wealth.

Arthur walked over to his desk, picked up his phone, and pressed a single speed-dial button. His voice was completely steady, empty of any emotion for the woman he had lived with for twenty years.

Arthur: Reynolds? Send up the security team to my study immediately. And call my private divorce lawyer. Tell him to prepare the filing paperwork tonight.

Victoria: Divorce? You can't divorce me! Our prenuptial agreement states that if you leave me, I get half of the entire Davis holding company!

Arthur: Read the fine print of that prenup, Victoria. There is a very specific fraud and criminal concealment clause. You illegally hid my biological heir and conspired to commit extortion against my estate. You won't get a single dime. You will be lucky if you don't end up in a federal courtroom.

Two large security guards in black uniforms entered the study, standing strictly by the doorway. Arthur pointed toward Victoria without even looking at her face.

Arthur: Take Mrs. Davis down to the guest quarters. She has exactly one hour to pack her personal clothing. She is no longer permitted in the main house, and she is banned from the corporate office grounds permanently.

Victoria: Arthur! You can't do this to me! I am the queen of this house! I am a Davis!

Arthur: Not anymore. Take her away.

The security guards firmly but gently escorted Victoria out of the room, her loud screams and furious curses fading down the long marble hallway until the house was completely quiet once again. The lawyers quickly bowed their heads, picked up their folders, and slipped out of the room, leaving Arthur and Elena completely alone.

Arthur turned to Elena, his eyes full of soft, paternal warmth. He walked over to her and gently reached out, placing his hand over her cheek, right where the red slap mark was finally starting to fade.

Arthur: I am so incredibly sorry, Elena. For everything. For the way you were treated today, and for the twenty-four years I wasn't there to protect you and your mother.

Elena felt a tear roll down her cheek, but this time, it wasn't a tear of sadness or fear. It was a tear of pure relief. The weight of her poverty, her struggle, and her isolation was finally lifted from her shoulders.

Elena: You didn't know, Father. You didn't know the truth.

Hearing her call him "Father" made Arthur's eyes fill with tears once again. He pulled his daughter into a tight, warm hug, holding her close as if he would never let her go again.

Arthur: Tomorrow, we are going to clear your mother's name. We are paying off every single debt, and we are changing the corporate bylaws. You are my daughter, Elena. From this day forward, you will never have to scrub another floor, and you will never have to worry about your future again. Welcome home.

Elena smiled through her tears, hugging him back tightly, knowing that her mother was finally resting in peace, and that justice had finally been served in the grandest house in the city.
