The heavy oak doors of the bridal suite opened, and Charles, Emma's billionaire father, walked into the room. He was dressed in a sharp tuxedo, looking at his watch with a slight frown before noticing the intense standoff happening in the center of the room.
Charles: What is going on in here? The guests are already seated in the main courtyard. The groom's family is asking why the bride hasn't walked down the aisle yet.
Victoria: Charles, thank goodness you're here. This ungrateful maid has filled Emma's head with insane stories about her adoption. She's trying to ruin the wedding!
Charles: An adoption story? What are you talking about?
Emma stepped forward, holding Elena's hand firmly. The contrast between Emma's pristine white lace gown and Elena's soaked, stained maid uniform was stark under the bright daylight.
Emma: Father, look at this photo. Look at the maid standing right next to me.
Charles took the photo, squinting at the faded image. He looked up at Elena, his sharp eyes taking in her facial features, her pale skin, and the distinctive shape of her eyes. He gasped softly, his hand dropping to his side.
Charles: Victoria... is this the child from the Vance case? The one you said died in the hospital twenty years ago?
Victoria: Charles, don't listen to her! We signed a non-disclosure agreement with the agency! We have a legal right to protect our family business from public scandals!
Emma: So you knew too, Father? You knew I had a sister who was left behind in poverty?
Charles: Emma, I was told the sister passed away from the same illness that took their mother. I had no idea she was alive, let alone working as a service staff member on our mountain estate.
Victoria: It doesn't matter what you knew! The prenuptial agreement is signed, the marriage certificates are ready, and the media is waiting outside! We cannot stop this wedding over a domestic dispute!
Emma reached up to her hair and tore the delicate lace veil from her head, letting it drop carelessly onto the wet floor next to the scattered water droplets.
Emma: There is not going to be a wedding today.
Victoria: Have you lost your mind? The groom's family controls the shipping merger we need for our quarterly revenue! If you walk away now, they will file a breach of contract lawsuit that will destroy our boardroom shares!
Emma: Let them file it. Let them take every single cent of the inheritance. I am not marrying a man who belongs to the same high society that destroys families for profit.
Elena: Emma, no... don't ruin your life for me. I just wanted to see you one last time. I didn't want to take your wealth away.
Emma: You aren't taking anything away, Elena. You are giving me my real life back.
