The Final Eviction

Victoria: Canceled?! How am I supposed to pay for my Uber?

Arthur: You can walk to the main gates, Victoria. It's a nice day for a stroll.

Victoria: You monster! You old, heartless monster!

Arthur: Call me whatever you like. Just do it outside my gates.

Ten minutes later, Richard and Victoria came dragging two small suitcases down the grand staircase. Victoria had changed into a plain tracksuit, her face red and streaked with mascara. Richard looked completely broken, his expensive suit rumpled and unbuttoned.

Richard: Is Leo still in the kitchen?

Arthur: He is. And he doesn't want to see you.

Richard: He's my son, Dad. You can't keep my son from me.

Arthur: You allowed this woman to strike him across the face over a fake pregnancy scheme. You gave up your right to be a father today.

Richard: I'll take you to family court! I'll file for full custody!

Arthur: With what money, Richard? My lawyers cost two thousand dollars an hour. Yours will be court-appointed.

Richard opened his mouth to reply, but no sound came out. He knew his father was right. Without the family money, he was completely powerless.

Victoria: Come on, Richard. Let's just leave this place. We'll sue him later!

Arthur: Good luck with that, Victoria. Security, open the front doors.

Two large security guards in black uniforms stepped forward, pushing open the heavy mahogany doors of the mansion. Outside, a light rain was beginning to fall over the long driveway.

Victoria: Rain? You're making us walk in the rain?

Arthur: Nature doesn't care about your ruined makeup, Victoria. Out.

Richard grabbed his suitcase handle and walked out without looking back. Victoria glared at Arthur one last time, pulling her hood over her head as she trudged down the marble steps behind her husband.

Arthur: Close the doors.

The heavy doors slammed shut with a deep, echoing thud, locking automatically. Arthur turned around to see Leo walking out of the kitchen, holding a small plastic ice pack against his swollen cheek.

Leo: Are they gone, Grandpa?

Arthur: They're gone, Leo. They won't ever bother you again.

Leo: Is Dad ever coming back?

Arthur: Not until he learns how to be a real man and a real father. And that is going to take a very long time.
