The elegant ballroom was glowing with warm afternoon sunlight as family and friends gathered for Emma and Jason's ring ceremony. Fresh flowers lined the stage, soft music filled the room, and everyone smiled as the happy couple stood together.
It was a day they had dreamed about for months.
The officiant invited them to celebrate the occasion with a traditional toast.
Jason picked up a beautiful glass of fresh juice and smiled at Emma.
"One sip for good luck," he said with a laugh.
Emma smiled back and leaned forward.
Just before the glass reached her lips, a little girl named Lily ran toward them.
Without warning, she bumped into Jason's arm.
The glass slipped from his hand.
It shattered across the floor.
The room fell silent.
Emma looked at Lily in shock.
"Why would you do that?" she asked.
Lily looked frightened, but she stood her ground.
"I had to stop you."
Guests exchanged confused glances.
"What do you mean?" Emma asked.
Lily pointed toward the broken drink.
"There was a cockroach in it."
The crowd gasped.
Jason immediately shook his head.
"That's ridiculous."
Lily calmly reached into her pocket.
"I knew nobody would believe me."
She unlocked her phone.
"I recorded what I saw."
Curious guests gathered around.
The video showed Jason standing alone near the refreshment table before the ceremony. Looking around to make sure no one was watching, he quietly dropped a cockroach into the glass before carrying it toward the stage.
The ballroom became completely silent.
Emma watched the recording without blinking.
Her hands began to shake.
She looked at Jason.
"Why?"
Jason lowered his head.
"I made a terrible mistake."
Tears filled Emma's eyes.
"I trusted you."
The guests couldn't believe what they had witnessed.
One by one, they quietly stepped back.
Emma wiped away her tears.
"You were supposed to protect me, not embarrass me."
Jason looked ashamed.
"I never imagined it would go this far."
Lily stood quietly to one side.
She hadn't wanted to interrupt the ceremony.
She only wanted to stop Emma from drinking the contaminated juice.
Emma walked over to Lily.
Instead of being angry, she gently hugged the little girl.
